Even though there are some exceptions, in general, mothers are special kind of loving, caring, sacrificing parents who seek to develop their children to be people of positive significance in life to God’s glory. Although some mothers may be overbearing with a critical and performance-oriented attitude, majority are people oriented and tolerant, and they discipline with gentle, persuasive love. Some mothers can be self-absorbed detached parents who fail to set healthy boundaries for their children letting them loose. Yet others are actively involved in raising their children with biblical guidance and principles that turn their hearts towards God in Christ Jesus. Mothers are generally soft-hearted, willing to learn, teachable and zealous for spiritual things that develop character and strong foundation of faith that lasts the span of life (2 Timothy 1:5). Most successful people, especially men, often credit their mothers as the brain and pillar behind their success. It seems a universal truth that women generally are more in tune with God and the things of the spirit than men. Thus, whether the children are theirs or not, women play the “mothering” role naturally. They are a strong pillar of faith and usually the majority participant in any local church. They are evangelistic and mission-oriented, using creative awareness to reach the sinful world for Christ. While there are absentee fathers in many homes, mothers are always there to do their best possible effort to keep the home together. Most mothers hold their children so dear and precious to their heart. Perhaps next to their allegiance to God is the preferential commitment to their children’s well-being. They read them the Bible and pray with and for them. Even though most mothers are probably not well recognized, appreciated and valued for all that they do in their respective homes, churches and communities at large, nothing seems to stop them from fulfilling what they consider their God-given task and responsibility.
While some mothers have failed humanity in one way or another, most mothers deserve our special recognition, admiration and honor in our heart to God’s glory. There seems to be nothing we can do individually and/or corporately to appreciate them enough than to say, “I love you, mother from the bottom of my heart for indeed you are one of a kind.”
Happy Mother’s Day!
